Ikon’s exhibition programme is devised by its curatorial team, up to two years in advance. More often than not our exhibitions and other projects arise from invitations to artists and we are rarely able to accommodate unsolicited proposals.
If you choose to make a submission, please send it to email@example.com where it will be reviewed by a member of our exhibitions team. Candidates are advised to include the following items in their proposal:
Please note that Ikon is unable to return any materials sent by post. We can only provide feedback on individual submissions that might be taken forward.
Ikon Gallery is a registered educational charity and relies upon regular funding from Arts Council England and Birmingham City Council. These core grants cover the gallery’s running costs, enabling Ikon to provide free entry. The exhibitions, learning programme and off-site projects across the city are primarily paid for through fundraising activity.
The gallery raises money through private grant giving trusts and foundations, corporate patrons and sponsors, international funding sources and the generosity of those visitors and supporters who make a donation.
These funds are supplemented by income generated through commercial activity such as hiring out the gallery for corporate hospitality and revenue earned through the bookshop.
If you wish to support Ikon and make a donation, please visit the Support page.
The building currently occupied by Ikon opened in 1878 as Oozells Street School and has been everything from a primary school to a theatrical stores. Read more about the redevelopment of Brindleyplace or download our history sheet by local historian Dr. Chris Upton:
