John Newling reveals the processes behind his work exhibited in Dear Nature. Together with Clare Lilley, Director of Programme, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Newling discusses a sustainable approach to artistic production in the age of the Anthropocene, our current geological age in which human impact on the environment is becoming increasingly evident.
Clare Lilley is Director of Programme at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which in 2014 was named the UK Museum of the Year. She has curated numerous internationally renowned exhibitions of modern and contemporary sculpture; recent curated and published work includes Ai Weiwei, Fiona Banner, Lucio Fontana, Amar Kanwar, KAWS, Alfredo Jaar, Shirin Neshat, Giuseppe Penone, Sean Scully, Yinka Shonibare CBE, David Smith, James Turrell and Bill Viola. Since 2012 she has selected the annual Frieze Sculpture in Regent’s Park, London. In 2002 Clare curated John Newling’s exhibition Currency and Belief at YSP. She sits on the Advisory Committee of the Government Art Collection, is a Trustee of Art UK and contributes to conferences, panel discussions and art prizes worldwide.
