Exhibition Opening

Join us to celebrate the launch of Ikon’s new exhibitions, presenting work by five artists: Haffendi Anuar, Abdulrazaq Awofeso, Yhonnie Scarce, Salote Tawale and Osman Yousefzada.

Arrivals, Ikon’s summer programme, is concerned with the international movement of people and ideas and organised to coincide with the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Yhonnie Scarce
Artist Residency
Australian Aboriginal artist Yhonnie Scarce was born in Woomera, South Australia, and belongs to the Kokatha and Nukunu peoples. Back in Birmingham for a residency until late-May, Scarce working with glass, explores the political nature and aesthetic qualities of the material – in particular corresponding to the crystallisation of desert sand as a result of British nuclear tests on her homeland during 1956-63.

Osman Yousefzada
This is the first solo exhibition by Birmingham-born fashion designer Osman Yousefzada. A leading light of London Fashion Week, Osman works at the intersection of art and fashion, combining his multi-disciplinary design practice with a strong sense of social commentary.
