Since September 2015 children from Birmingham primary and secondary schools have explored Ikon’s exhibitions by Fiona Banner, Dinh Q. Lê, Janet Mendelsohn and Dan Flavin as part of the NNCO programme in partnership with Birmingham City University. The children worked with University Student Ambassadors to make their own artwork, visited the Parkside Campus in Eastside and worked towards an Arts Award Explore. This programme raises aspirations in the arts and their ambitions for higher education. Ikon now hosts a weekend showcase of the children’s artwork, curated by the Student Ambassadors.

Kan Xuan
Ikon shows the first UK exhibition by renowned Chinese artist Kan Xuan (born 1972, Anhui province), presenting a wide selection of single screen video pieces made since the late 1990s. Refreshingly unpretentious and economical in style, with familiar subject matter, they are profoundly philosophical about the nature of human life.
