Booking essential, places are limited
Our cities are built on visions of the future but in fact these visions are more familiar than their creators may wish us to know about. In this age of globalisation and expedited Internationalism in architecture, buildings contain coded design practices that are either borrowed or adapted from other places and cultures.
This tour is led by Alessandro Columbano, Senior Lecturer at Birmingham School of Architecture and Design. It extends ideas taken from the Langlands & Bell exhibition and intertwines aspects of branding the city, building cladding, repeated motifs and unrealised urbanism as we walk around some of the key (and surprising) architectural landmarks of Birmingham city centre to explore how cities are globalised symbols that are replicated around the world.
Join us for refreshments and conversation afterwards in a local public house. Please wear footwear appropriate to urban walking.
Please book online or call Ikon Shop on 0121 248 0711. Online booking closes at 12pm on Wednesday 18 April.
