Simryn Gill

12 April — 29 May 2000

A Malaysian artist who lives and works in Sydney, Australia, Gill uses discarded everyday objects to create playful works, raising questions about the origins and movements of objects within particular cultures. This was her first major solo exhibition in the UK and included photography, sculpture and installation. Miniature vehicles constructed from pods and seeds were scattered across a gallery floor in Self Seeds. Other works included a native American headress fashioned from dried chillies, a lifesize suit made from coconut bark and banana skins engraved with words.
