The Migrant Festival

For the final four days of Hew Locke’s exhibition, The Migrant Festival returned to celebrate our diverse roots, welcoming new arrivals to the city.

The programme included a talk with artist Hew Locke and Rt. Hon. David Lammy MP, focusing on the campaign for Windrush British Citizens, an introduction to the Stuart Hall Archive at the University of Birmingham and a talk with Jon Bloomfield and artist Vanley Burke about Bloomfield’s 2019 book Our City: Migrants and the Making of Modern Birmingham. Artist and designer Osman Yousefzada staged a second fashion parade, between Selfridges and Ikon, and Celebrating Sanctuary held concerts with Haitian and Syrian musicians.

The Migrant Festival is supported by Arts Council England, Michael Marsh Charitable Trust and The Saintbury Trust.
