Pavel Büchler

This catalogue accompanies the most comprehensive UK exhibition to date by Pavel Büchler. Büchler was born in Prague in 1952 and have been living in the UK since the 1980s.

The exhibition at Ikon consists of a wide range of media including text, found objects, obsolete technologies and appropriated digital material. These combine logical scepticism with a smart sense of humour that draws attention to the strange  nature of everyday life. Büchler through his practice is seeking to expose art as fundamentally strange. A key piece in the exhibition is The Castle. This piece mirrors the notion of the perpetual outsider status, a key work in his exhibition, corresponds to an anxiety that is often engendered by cultural institutions. The work also proclaims a quotation from Kafka’s The Castle which is also available in the Ikon shop and online.

In addition Pavel Büchler has made a new limited edition, titled Honest Work (Silence) (2015), available exclusively at Ikon, it is a letterpress work on Arches 88 paper, 34x50cm, edition of 26, priced £720.
