Ikon Gallery is accessible to all visitors with visual, hearing and mobility impairments.

Access to building and facilities

  • Ikon has level access from the street. The passenger lift, with embossed controls, provides access to all facilities except the Tower Room.
  • All public access doors are a minimum of 750mm wide.
  • A staffed cloakroom facility is available for leaving awkward baggage and strollers.
  • A wheelchair is available for use by visitors.
  • Portable seating is available in the exhibition galleries.
  • The reception desk and shop desk are at accessible heights with knee hole access for wheelchairs
  • Toilets on the ground and first floors are accessible for disabled visitors or visitors with limited dexterity.
  • Evacuation chairs are available for emergency use.
  • We welcome guide and hearing dogs.
  • Baby changing facilities are available on the ground floor.

Exhibitions provision for visitors with disabilities

  • Ikon Gallery offers disabled visitors support facilities to ensure that the exhibition programme can be appreciated by all.
  • Exhibition tours tailored to visitor needs are available on request. This includes Audio Description and British Sign Language (BSL). Advanced booking essential – to book call Ikon on 0121 248 0708 or email the Learning team learning@ikon-gallery.org
  • There is clear signage throughout with a minimum recommended text size for labels and signage.
  • Friendly, well-trained staff are available to provide assistance to visitors, or to offer tours and workshops.
  • Induction loop facilities are available. Please call to check before your visit.
  • Large print text available on request at reception.
  • Café facilities with level access and table service.
