Being There is a two-part project conceived and realised by the artist Claudia Losi in collaboration with Italian arts collective, Collettivo Amigdala. Exhibited for the first time in Ikon’s Tower Room is Poli Antarctici Constitutio (2019), an intricately embroidered woollen cloth featuring a depiction of the Antarctic as represented in XII Book by Athanasius Kircher in Mundus Subterraneus (1664). Losi fabricated the artwork over a period of nearly two years, during studio visits and day to day encounters with friends and acquaintances where stories of life, different countries, chatter, secrets and laughter are rooted in every stitch.
