Is Ikon a charity?

Yes. Ikon is a registered charity (no. 528892). More information can be found on the Charity Commission website.

How can I support Ikon?

Quite simply by visiting the gallery, attending our events, making a purchase from our shop or having coffee in our cafe.

If you have a question about how you can support Ikon further by donating, becoming a Patron or sponsoring our work, please contact the Development team.

Can I buy something from Ikon?

You can shop in-store at the gallery or online at shop.ikon-gallery.org

Ikon Shop stocks a wide range of Ikon catalogues, art books, limited editions and gifts. All profits support Ikon.

Can I hire Ikon?

Yes. Ikon is ideal for many different kinds of events, with the exhibitions and Grade II listed building providing an amazing backdrop. Please visit the Venue Hire section to find out more and make an enquiry.

Please note that we do not hire the gallery out for temporary exhibitions.

Can I book a table in the café?

You can book a table in person or by calling Yorks Café at Ikon on 0121 293 9186. Please contact them for any questions regarding their menus or your visit.

Who do I talk to at Ikon about the exhibitions?

If you have a question about Ikon’s exhibitions, touring shows or any aspect of the gallery’s artistic policy, please contact the Learning team.

Who do I talk to at Ikon about your educational work?

If you have a question about Ikon’s Education programme, outreach and community work, workshops and public events, please contact the Education team.

Where can I read Ikon’s policies?

Where is Ikon located?

Ikon Gallery is located in Birmingham city centre. Please go to the Visit section to view the location of the gallery and directions by public transport etc.

Is Ikon free to visit?

Yes. One of Ikon’s guiding principles is to offer and encourage access to art for everyone. As such, Ikon exhibitions are free to visit.
As a registered charity, we rely on and are grateful for any donations received when you visit.

When is Ikon open?

The gallery is open Tuesday – Sunday, 11am – 5pm.

The Visit section has more information, including current opening times for Ikon Shop and Yorks Café at Ikon, to help you plan your visit.

Are there any job vacancies?

All current vacancies are advertised in the Jobs section, where application forms, job descriptions, equal opportunities information can be downloaded.

How do I exhibit at Ikon?

Ikon’s exhibition programme is devised by its curatorial team, up to two years in advance. More often than not our exhibitions and other projects arise from invitations to artists and we are rarely able to accommodate unsolicited proposals.

If you choose to make a submission, please send it to exhibitions@ikon-gallery.org where it will be reviewed by a member of our exhibitions team. Candidates are advised to include the following items in their proposal:

  • A letter outlining the work or exhibition proposed
  • An up to date CV and 5-10 images to illustrate your proposal

Please note that Ikon is unable to return any materials sent by post. We can only provide feedback on individual submissions that might be taken forward.

Who do I talk to at Ikon about marketing and press?

Please contact the Communications team, if you have a question about Ikon’s audiences, mailing list, marketing or publicity.

Who do I contact if I have a complaint?

If you have a complaint regarding any aspect of the gallery, please contact the Chief Executive Officer by post, email or telephone on 0121 248 0708. Please include your contact details including name, address, telephone number and email address, if appropriate, so that a prompt response can be made.

If your complaint relates to Yorks at Ikon, please contact the Café Manager by post or telephone 0121 293 9186.

Can Ikon obtain Immunity from Seizure for loans?

Works of art intended to form part of a forthcoming exhibition at Ikon that may be covered by immunity from seizure are listed under Legal & Policy.
