About Arts Champions, Ikon in Northfield 2011 -2014
Ikon is the Arts Champion for the Northfield district of Birmingham (2011–2014), working with local residents to produce and experience contemporary art. Since September 2012 Birmingham-based artists Nikki Pugh and Giovanni ‘Spoz’ Esposito have worked with parent groups at Children’s Centres in the Northfield areas of Rubery, Frankley and Longbridge. As part of ‘in residence’ sessions, families have explored how they negotiate their local area through walking, photography, sound
recording and drawing.
Previous and ongoing Ikon projects in Northfield include Drawing Rooms, a collaboration with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) exploring graphic composition; Post Marks, a European funded drawing project with partners in Spain, Italy and Germany; and Northfeld Arts Trail with NAF. If you live in the Northfield constituency and want to get involved in Ikon’s activity in the area please email Emma Bowen, Learning Coordinator firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0121 248 0708.
