Consultation Studio

In 2006, as part of Ikon’s Inside Offsite programme, this collaborative project engaged pupils from Four Dwellings High School, Birmingham in a process that explored the use and re-design of space in and around the school. Artist Fran Bossom consulted with students, teachers and community users of the site before inviting participation in a ‘creative mapping’ process that revealed which spaces within the school were important to the school community and how such spaces were used.

Fran subsequently used the raw material gathered through the consultation to create a new site-specific art work for the school – a large-scale installation of custom-made wallpaper panels within the school environment.
