Soapboxes

Salman Mirza, Birmingham Network Worker for Migrant Voice, chairs ten quick-fire soapbox presentations and a Q&A from individuals and groups supporting migrants in the Midlands, including their responses to the Refugee Week 2022 theme ‘Healing’.

Following the presentations there will be a free concert with musicians Lekan Babalola, Kate Luxmoore and Tom Ford.

This event is part of The Migrant Festival 2022 and Ikon’s Arrivals programme for Summer 2022, concerned with the international movement of people and ideas and organised to coincide with the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

About the presenter

Salman Mirza has worked as an advocate and shop union steward for over thirty years, campaigning on the streets and in the courts for migrant and workers’ rights. He says “If you fight you may win. If you don’t fight you will always lose.”
