Artist Talk – Jessica Ostrowicz
Join Jessica Ostrowicz, Ikon’s Artist in Residence at HMP Spring Hill, and James Latunji-Cockbill, Producer of Ikon’s Art in Prisons programme, for an artist talk exploring the twelve-month residency at the Category D open prison. Ostrowicz reflects on her time as Artist in Residence and the coproduced exhibition, Time and Time Again.
Artist biography
Previously Art Lecturer at HMP Bullingdon (2023 – 2025), Ostrowicz’s art practice is focused on the concept of home and (be)longing from the perspectives of displacement, diaspora, up-rootedness and confinement. Their research is focused on the concept of ‘home’ for men incarcerated in the UK and how this understanding plays out as a sense of self in prison cells. They have exhibited in group shows including Common Threads for Bienalsur at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Oaxaca, Mexico, Soil and Water at the Nirox Foundation in South Africa, and Family Business at the Central Synagogue in Berlin. Solo exhibitions include I Wish I Was at Nogallery, Berlin, The Inhale Before at Kunsthaus Dahlem, Germany, and Remaining Without Returning at OP ENHEIM Gallery in Wrocław, Poland.
Art at HMP Spring Hill is funded by the Rothschild Foundation.
