
Angela de la Cruz in conversation
Join us for an artist’s talk with Angela de la Cruz, artist; Carolina Grau, guest curator of UPRIGHT; and Mariana Lemos independent curator and former Studio Manager of de la Cruz.
During this event they discuss de la Cruz’s journey to becoming an artist, her practice in pushing the boundaries of painting and sculpture, and the work in her current Ikon exhibition that concerns itself with the human body, resilience and humour of everyday survival.

About the speakers
Angela de la Cruz born in La Coruña, Spain, and based in London, has been a leading figure in contemporary sculpture and expanded painting for more than thirty years. She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2010, and this exhibition marks her first solo exhibition in the UK outside London.
Carolina Grau is an art historian and independent curator specializing in contemporary art organising international exhibitions, projects and events. She has produced several individual exhibitions of young and established artists (Anna Barribal, Martin Creed, Angela de la Cruz and Susan Hiller) in public institutions, private foundations and commercial galleries in Brazil, France, Portugal, Spain and UK.
Mariana Lemos is an independent curator based in London working with performance art, affect, and crip phenomenologies. Her curatorial approach is based on disability access and feminist methoologies. Lemos has worked with Angela de la Cruz as her Artist Liaison at Lisson Gallery (2017-18) and later as her Studio Manager (2021-24).
