Exhibition Tour with Dr Esther Windsor
Join us for a free tour of Angela de la Cruz’s exhibition UPRIGHT with Dr Esther Windsor.
UPRIGHT brings together key sculptures, installations and paintings that explore de la Cruz’s deep concern with the human body, vulnerability and the physical realities of everyday survival. For more than three decades, Angela de la Cruz has pushed the boundaries of painting and sculpture. Her works interrogate what happens when familiar structures — physical, emotional or architectural — collapse, strain or resist pressure.
Dr Esther Windsor is an artist, curator, academic, and long‑standing friend of Angela de la Cruz, with whom she worked as studio manager in 2010. She has curated exhibitions at the ICA, Camerawork Gallery, The Photographers’ Gallery, and the Royal Society of Sculptors, London.
Esther established two art‑school galleries—the waiting room at the University of Wolverhampton and Mirror at LCP (now UAL)—and previously directed Hull Time Based Arts. She also co‑curated and co‑directed the artist‑led space 1000000 mph in London.
She teaches Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art across BA and MA programmes and supervises practice‑based PhDs. Her research draws on psychoanalysis, politics, feminisms, health, storytelling, and the idea of the curated exhibition as an artwork in its own right.
Recent publications include: Revisiting Edward Said’s Representations of the Intellectual: A Roundtable for Perspectives on Academic Activism in 21st Century Education (PTHE Journal, 2022) and Rise Flap Lick, on a performance workshop with Anat Ben David (Chicks on Speed), Riffs Journal, Vol. 9 (2026).
