Family Saturday
Artist Natasha Taheem invites families to create graphic posters using a range of techniques including paper cutting, embroidery and screen printing, inspired by Ikon’s current exhibition by Seulgi Lee, SPAN.
The workshop interprets participants’ favourite phrases as colourful abstract compositions in response to new quilt artworks by Seulgi Lee; U : A Piece of Cake = Easy to Get Rid Of and U : 감쪽같다 Like a Kaki = As If By Magic (both 2025).
This exhibition is made possible by lead supporter Bagri Foundation, with additional support from Ikon lead benefactor ai. gallery; Korea Artist Prize Promotion Fund, from SBS Foundation and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea; and Trampoline, Association in support of the French art scene, Paris.
Family Saturday takes place on the first Saturday of every month – join us for a drop-in creative activity, led by a local artist. Open to all ages. Please consider making a donation for this free activity.
About the artist
Natasha Taheem is a Birmingham-based artist whose practice centres on craft-based processes like woodblock printing, drawing and ceramics. They employ these mediums as tools for self-honouring and fostering chosen family. Informed by a tailoring background, Taheem brings an inherited connection to craft and material to their contemporary storytelling.
Taheem’s engagement extends beyond the studio into socially engaged art projects. As the founder of Queer Mehndi Nights, the artist has worked with organisations including Action for Refugees, Journey, The Hospital Rooms, National Trust and Sense; they currently hold residencies with Grand Union and Shout Festival. Their art is a celebration of brown queer joy, a reflection on belonging, and an ongoing dialogue between heritage and identity.
