Family Saturday
Family Saturday takes place on the first Saturday of every month.
Join artist Nastaran Tavakoli for a creative, hands-on workshop inspired by Balraj Khanna: Lines of Flight.
Inspired by Balraj Khanna’s description of his paintings as “the theatre of the natural world”, participants will create imaginative articulated puppets using colourful paper, card and brass fasteners. Exploring organic forms, geometric shapes, pattern and movement, this hands-on workshop brings the vibrant visual language of Khanna’s paintings into three dimensions.
Throughout Khanna’s work, abstract shapes appear to float, gather and interact like characters on a stage. Taking inspiration from these playful compositions, participants of all ages will combine unexpected forms to invent a unique character that may be part plant, part creature, or something entirely imagined. With movable joints that bend, twist and dance, each puppet becomes a performer in its own right.
Nastaran Tavakoli is an Iranian artist-educator leading art workshops and classes for all ages. For Nastaran Tavakoli, art is not just about creating objects, it’s about connecting with people, sharing stories, and inspiring the next generation.
