Family Saturday
Join artists Ashley Wilson and Nastaran Tavakoli for a free, drop-in creative session. Families are invited to create mini-sculptures using a range of materials in response to Donald Locke’s Resistant Forms (1 October 2025 – 22 February 2026).
Locke’s organic ceramic forms and abstract sculptures combining wood, metal and plastics were closely informed by the rule-breaking California Clay Movement, which Locke was introduced to by fellow artists in the UK.
Family Saturday takes place on the first Saturday of every month – join us for a drop-in creative activity, led by a local artist. Open to all ages. Please consider making a donation for this free activity.
About the artists
Ashley Wilson is a Birmingham-based artist and MA Arts and Education student at Birmingham City University, whose practice explores Caribbean folklore, Jamaican craft traditions and personal histories of migration through printmaking, paper making and collaborative making.
Nastaran Tavakoli is an Iranian artist-educator leading art workshops and classes for all ages. For Nastaran Tavakoli, art is not just about creating objects, it’s about connecting with people, sharing stories, and inspiring the next generation. Nastaran Tavakoli is on a study placement with the Ikon Education Team, as part of her MA Arts Education Practice degree.
