TAG is a series of photographic portraits by Ming de Nasty of LGBTQ+ women in Birmingham that reflects how they self identify and the impact of labels on their everyday lives.

The artist asserts that “in a world that requires so many labels individuals are trying their best to be true to themselves in a society that often wants to restrain and normalise. This exhibition highlights the difference amongst individuals and the extent to which their self-definitions are at odds with cis heteronormative expectations.”

“I wanted to explore the debate around identity and make portraits that showed people as unique individuals, to give the participants a space to tell their own stories and expose shared experiences.”

TAG uses a mobile exhibition structure designed by Juneau Projects that will tour to various venues after its first showing at SHOUT Festival in 2018.

Supported by Arts Council England, SHOUT Festival of Queer Arts & Culture, Birmingham, A3 Project Space, The Flash Centre Birmingham and Kaleidoscope Imaging.
