Join Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) at the Coventry Biennial 2023 for a showcase of weaving made in collaboration with artist Seungwon Jung. This exhibition takes place at The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.

IYP has been collaborating with Jung and volunteers at The Weaver’s House to explore Coventry’s history of weaving, as one of the city’s main industries in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Through workshops on Slow Boat in Coventry Canal Basin and the medieval terrace at The Weaver’s House, Spon End, they have considered the intersection between photography and weaving. 

This project is co-created with Ikon Youth Programme on Slow Boat, supported by Freelands Foundation. 

About the artist  

London based Seungwon Jung (b.1992, Seoul) is interested in how our perception situates time in relation to space. Her practice traverses installation, sculpture and photography, including sculptural fabric works and photographs transformed into a wide range of textiles. She is also interested in the intersections at which coding and digital language meets craft and more traditional processes. With an MFA in Fine Art Media from the Slade School of Fine Art, Seungwon Jung is the recipient of several awards including The Photographers’ Gallery New Talent Award and The Museum of Photography, Seoul Talent Portfolio. She has exhibited her work internationally and recently exhibited at the Korean Cultural Centre UK, London, The Museum of Photography, Seoul and The Photographers’ Gallery, London. 

About Ikon Youth Programme 

With the support of Freelands Foundation, over three years (2021-24) Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) navigates the waterways on board Slow Boat, a converted narrow boat. IYP are collaborating with creative thinkers and makers to reimagine Slow Boat as a local art school.
