This showcase is a celebration of artworks made by pupils from Birmingham primary and secondary schools, responding to Hew Locke’s temporary public sculpture Foreign Exchange. The project involves over 1000 students who visited Locke’s artwork and participated in workshops at Ikon Gallery, Handsworth Park or in their classrooms to create artworks responding to themes of humanity, interconnectedness, common ground and activism.
Schools include Brownmead Academy (Shard End), Heathfield Primary School (Handsworth), Hillstone Primary School (Shard End), Holy Trinity C of E Primary School (West Bromwich), King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys (Kings Heath), Oasis Academy Hobmoor (Yardley), Sladefield Infant School (Ward End), Small Heath Leadership Academy (Small Heath) and Welford Primary School (Handsworth).
Artists include Haseebah Ali, Polly Brant, Claudette Holmes, Jane Thakoordin and Monica Perez Vega.
