Ikon continues to present film works in a disused shop unit in Fletchers Walk, central Birmingham. Graham Gussin’s film Spill (1999) points up cinematic effects to convey notions of threshold and threat. Set in an empty industrial building, gradually subsumed by artificial fog, it evokes the uncanny, referring to horror and science fiction films of the 1950s as well as contemporary commercial music videos. The overall effect is hypnotic and compelling.
