Some of the highlights from The Migrant Festival 2022 (14-17 July). The festival celebrated the contribution made by refugees and migrants to Birmingham and the UK, and highlighted the migrant stories of artists in Ikon’s programme, including Abdulrazaq Awofeso and Osman Yousefzada.

Ikon presents the third annual Migrant Festival. A four day programme mixing visual art, music, film and performance, it celebrates the contribution made by refugees and migrants to Birmingham and the UK, whilst bearing witness to the hardships and sacrifices involved.

Thank you to all of the families who took part in our recent Family Saturday workshop with artist Monica Perez Vega. Families were introduced to Ikon’s current exhibition Faster Than Ever before creating their own versions of key artworks, experimenting with colour, collage and painting.

Ikon teams up again with local independent record shop The Diskery on Saturday 1 June 7-10pm as part of The Migrant Festival. We spoke to Danny Young from the Diskery to find out more!

Showcasing the best of local Birmingham makers, Ikon Gallery hosts a Winter Craft Market on 15 November, set in the stunning exhibition of Polly Apfelbaum. This will be a perfect chance to find unique Christmas presents, and you can enjoy 20% discount in Ikon Shop across a range of products.

With the days drawing darker and the application for stall-holders deadline soon approaching, we are in full swing with preparations for this year’s Winter Craft Market.

From 14–17 June, Ikon hosted The Migrant Festival; a four day festival fusing themes of migration, fashion, art and music. Curated by fashion designer Osman Yousefzada, it was organised to coincide with his exhibition at Ikon Being Somewhere Else (6–29 June 2018).

A very special Instameet took place on 5 March 2016 in collaboration with Ikon, where 50 members of the IGersBirmingham community descended on Balsall Heath.
