RETIRED YOUTH: The Show

Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) invite you to Ikon for a sneak preview of RETIRED YOUTH: The Pilot Episode by artist Alice Theobald with members of IYP. Watch features, interviews and explore the set for the first episode of the new community TV show before it launches later in the year.

With pre-recorded interviews, video segments and spoken word, this pilot episode explores what it means to miss the boat, have the door shut in our face, and be told that we are already too late. They question who defines ‘readiness’, who gets heard in the gallery elevator and who is still waiting outside of view. What happens when they stop waiting for permission to enter and instead speak directly from where they are?

RETIRED YOUTH is a new community TV show produced by artist Alice Theobald. The pilot episode was made with Ikon Youth Programme members in Spring/Summer 2026. RETIRED YOUTH explores topics important to young people through interviews, features, art, discussion, music and more, privileging creative experimentation and learning through hands-on experience and the freedom to make mistakes.

Alice Theobald is a multi-disciplinary artist working across a range of media including live performance, video, installation, sound/music, text and sculpture to explore the divisions between stage and life and the discrepancies between expression, appearance and feeling.

Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) brings together emerging artists, designers, writers, photographers, policy makers and earth scientists aged 16–21. Participants co-lead programmes, exhibitions and events, working collaboratively with regional and national artists through workshops, shared resources and ongoing knowledge exchange. IYP is supported by Freelands Foundation.
