Birmingham City University MA Jewellery & Related Products students from the Department of Fashion and Jewellery present EXPANSION: Project Growth and Development – a showcase of work-in-progress, investigating the relationship between research and creative practice though making.
Based at the internationally renowned School of Jewellery in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, students have developed work through a study programme titled Proof and Concept. Each piece of work responds to a specific research question, exploring the role of jewellery while testing the viability of emerging ideas and pushing the boundaries of materials and processes. This exhibition is the third in a series of work-in-progress showcases presented by the cohort this academic term.
As the students enter their final phase of study, these exploratory works will be refined into graduate collections, culminating in a final exhibition in September 2026.
EXPANSION: Project Growth and Development is presented as part of Ikon’s BCU Tuesdays partnership with Birmingham City University, enabling the gallery to open to the public every Tuesday, providing opportunities for outreach with regional secondary schools. During the exhibition, School of Jewellery staff and students will facilitate talks and workshops, demonstrating heritage craft skills and contemporary practices for local school groups and teachers.
